Most patients having infection with the Omicron variant seem to recover within a week, suggests an analysis of the case history of 105 patients, including seven children, treated at Lok Nayak Hospital in Delhi.
Dr Suresh Kumar, medical director of Lok Nayak Hospital, said that around 99% of Omicron patients recovered within a week, adding that the variant spreads fast and is cleared fast from the body. Data suggested that in cases with Omicron variant, 92% patients tested RT-PCR negative within a week, 5% tested negative by the eighth day and 3% by the ninth day. Dr Kumar said that people with comorbidities, including diabetes, hypertension or tuberculosis, took a longer time to recover.
